Who is Karen Gay?!

Karen Gay, the owner of Karen Gay Professional Alterations, has been sewing since the age of six, having learned originally at her mother's knee, the way many great seamstresses have! She has been sewing full time professionally for more than fifteen years now. Her business practice includes all types of clothing alterations, with a special focus on bridal/formalwear and beaded garments. For the past seven years, Karen has been an active board member of the Chicago chapter of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals. She has produced ASDP's annual fashion show twice. Professional educational conferences have given her the opportunity to meet and study with some of the top professionals in the sewing and design industry. She is pictured here at a photo shoot for Vogue Pattern magazine, with British fashion designer David Sassoon. Karen is wearing a gown she created from one of Sassoon's designs, released to Vogue Pattern Company.

She has been affiliated with Mercury Cleaners in Valparaiso for the last twelve years.Mercury Cleaners was founded in 1950 by Erwin Dygert, and is currently owned and operated by Norman and Linda Dygert, together with their son, Brett.
